Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings.  And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.

-1 Peter 5:8-10

Jesus' church is worldwide.  While we may be tempted to believe that the United States is the center of Christendom, this is not the case.  The church is rapidly growing in South America, Africa, China, and in the former Iron Curtain nations, to name a few.  The church is rapidly growing in nations where it is illegal and risky to proclaim Christ or read a Bible.  Though total numbers are few, percentage growth is huge.  At Providence, we realize that God has blessed us with economic resources and it is our delight to share what we have.  We are also humbled to realize that many who do not have the economic resources that we enjoy, know much more deeply than us the deep dependence on Christ that manifests itself in supernatural love, joy, and peace (that is, not the counterfeit versions we have grown accustomed to).  Each week we pray that God would strengthen our brothers and sisters who suffer for the faith, and that God would bring many to faith through them while deepening our own faith.
