Our Beliefs
"For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men.
It [grace] teaches us to say 'No' to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled,
upright and godly lives in this present age..."
-Titus 2:11-12
You can tell what someone believes, not by what they say, but by what they do. A Christian is someone who loves God more than anyone or anything else in their life. Anyone with a basic knowledge of the Bible will admit that this is an accurate assessment of Jesus’ teaching on the subject. Love and joy are linked. A person finds great joy doing what they love.
In the hymn “Love Constraining to Obedience”, William Cowper wrote:
To see the Law by Christ fulfilled,
To hear His pardoning voice,
Changes a slave into a child
And duty into choice.
If we love Christ, serving Him is great joy, not duty. We see this in the story of Zacchaeus. Here was a man enslaved to greed, yet when Jesus comes he finds joy that sets him free. Duty kills the soul. Grace gives it life. We have lost grace, so Christianity has been turned into drudgery. At Providence we teach that we must find our first love by seeing the beauty of God and the depth of His grace. Obedience will joyfully follow. Only understanding the deep love of Christ for you and His work on your behalf will give you the life you desperately crave. As He transforms your soul, you will follow Him out of passionate desire, no matter the hardship.
We believe the Reformation brought Grace back to the Church, but that many Protestants today do not understand these truths. We are committed to teaching these truths.
